Teacher: As you can guess we are going to talk about computers. – Once upon a time there were no computers, no video games, CD-ROM players, modern TV, fast phone connections, etc. A lot of things were not possible. But now the world is quite different and we can’t imagine it without computers.

– Computers help guide planes by giving pilots important information such as speed and altitude.
– Books and other materials are checked out by using computers. Each book has a bar code.
– Reporters write their articles on the computer.
– Computers are used to control much in television.
Teacher: There are strong arguments both for and against the use of computers. They have replaced humans in many jobs and made our lives considerably easier. It’s difficult to imagine life without them
- Teacher: I have another surprise for you. It’s a magic box. You are to guess what thing in the magic box is. As you have noticed the box is not large, so the size of the thing is the same, or it may be smaller. Please put the questions.
P1: Is it a gadget?
P2: Is it a modern invention ?
P3: Do we use it every day?
P4: What can we do with the help of it?
P5: Is it a…..
Teacher: Yes, you are quite right. It’s a mobile phone. Can you imagine your life without a mobile phone?
The modern mobile phone is a more complex version of the two-way radio. Traditional two-way radio was a very limited means of communication. As soon as the users moved out of range of each other’s broadcast area, the signal was lost. In the 1940s, researchers began experimenting with the idea of using a number of radio masts located around the countryside to pick up signals from two-way radios. A caller would always be within range of one of the masts; when he moved too far away from one mast, the next mast would pick up the signal. Scientists referred to each mast’s reception area as being a separate ‘cell’; this is why in many countries mobile phones are called ‘cell phones’.
Why have mobile phones become part of our everyday lives?
Answers:
- They help us stay in touch wherever we are.
Mobiles have become more advanced, with built-in cameras, global positioning devices and internet access.
Teacher: I would like to tell you about my mobile phone. It is called NOKIA . It is simple. It is not last model. I use it only for connection. Thanks to it I can be reachable everywhere and I can never miss something important. I have three children and a mobile phone makes my life much easier. If I worry about my kids, I can call them and make sure they are all right. But I begin to hate my mobile phone on weekends and on holidays. I feel that I have no privacy when I know that every minute somebody can call me. I suggest you to listen to what our pupils say about their mobile phones. Try to advertise your phones.
- Teacher: Please look at the screen where you will enjoy the advertisement.
As you guess we continue our discussion and we’ll talk about television. Do you know anything about it? Let’s look at the board and learn some interesting information about television and do some tasks
Television, also called TV, is one of our most important means of communication. It brings moving pictures and sounds from around the world into millions of homes. The name «Television» comes from Greek word meaning «far», and a Latin word meaning «to see», so the word «television» means «to see far».
Teacher: We’ll continue our work. There are hats of different colours on your desks Your task is to read the text and find the information. But before it look at the screen and read what the colours of the hats mean.
Television
It is common knowledge that television now plays an important role in our life.It is difficult to say if it is good or bad for us. On the one hand, we can say that TV is our eyes because TV helps us to know more about the world, about the other counties, about the events that happened in the world. It’s the main source of information and a cheap form of entertainment for millions of people. It gives us an opportunity to “travel” all over the world, to “meet” different people and learn about their customs and traditions. It has the power to educate and broaden our minds. It helps us to relax after a hard day’s work and escape from reality. There’s always a great variety of programmes on TV: news and sports programmes, talk shows, games, concerts and theatre performances…
On the other hand, television is a terrible waste of time. It makes us lazier. We stay at home instead of going out. We read less. We think less. We even talk less. Before we admitted the one-eyed monster into our homes, we never found it difficult to occupy our spare time. For instance, we used to have hobbies,we used to go outside for our amusements to theatres, cinemas, restaurants and sporting events. We read books and listened to music. All that belongs to the past. Television encourages passive enjoyment. Little by little, it cuts us off from the real world. Besides, very often the programmes are bad. There is also too much ads. Violence on TV is another problem that worries people. As George Mikes once said, TV teaches us “how to kill, to rob, to shoot and to poison.”But the same can be said about computer games and many films and books. And if you don’t like a certain programme, why watch it?
Reflexion:
Hats with different colours:
Teacher: What is your favorite TV programme? :
TV programme planners TV planning sheet
Teacher: You are television programme planners. You are meeting to plan a typical evening’s viewing. Here is your planning sheet.

- Making an advertisement:
Teacher: For this I’ll divide you in two groups. Well, let’s imagine what technologies we’ll have in the future. You should create machine or gadget of the future and try to advertise itWe are going to watch one of them.
VII. Conclusion:
Teacher:At the end of the lesson we must conclude that technology is developing all the time. It affects different spheres of our life, our language. We know how important today to be prepared to learn how to use new technology. Moreover we should expect major technological advances in the near future.
I want to finish our lesson with the words of wisdom:
The happiest of people don’t necessarily have the best of everything
they just make the most of everything that comes along their way.
Teacher: Thank you for your participation. I’m quite satisfied with your work. Iputyougoodandexcellentmarks. Goodbye!
